How to remove an object from a photo

  1. Drop your photo into the box, paste it, or press Try a sample.
  2. Paint over what should go, with its shadow. Change the brush size with the slider or the [ and ] keys.
  3. Press Remove. The first time, the 28 MB model downloads; after that a fill takes about a second on a graphics card.
  4. Check and download. Flip to Before / after, undo anything you don't like, then download at full resolution.

What makes it different

No upload

Most magic erasers send your photo to a server. This one runs the model in your browser, so private photos stay private.

Full resolution

The fill is made around your selection at the photo's own resolution, and the rest of the picture is untouched. No 720p preview, no watermark.

Undo and compare

Every removal can be undone and redone, and a before/after slider shows exactly what changed.

Open model, clear licence

MI-GAN is released under the MIT licence, so you can use the cleaned photo anywhere, including commercially.

What it can't do

The model invents what was behind the object from what's around it; it can't know what was really there. On plain backgrounds the fill is usually invisible. Where the object covered something specific (half a face, text, a pattern that doesn't repeat) the result will look plausible at a glance but won't be the real thing. For a job-site or property photo that's fine; for anything that has to be a faithful record, it isn't.

Privacy

Your photo is opened, processed and saved by your browser on this page. It is not uploaded, stored or seen by anyone. The page downloads the model (28 MB) and the ONNX Runtime engine (about 7 MB compressed) from this site the first time and keeps them in your browser’s cache.

Questions people ask

Is this object remover free?

Yes. Removing objects is free with no sign-up, no watermark and no daily limit, and you download the photo at its full original resolution. Many free erasers save a 720p or watermarked copy; this one doesn't.

Is my photo uploaded anywhere?

No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once and runs on your own computer or phone, on the graphics card when your browser supports WebGPU and on the CPU otherwise. Your photo never leaves your device, and once the model is cached the tool works offline.

What can I remove?

Anything that sits in front of a simpler background: people in the distance, tourists, cars, bins, signs, wires, spots and stray objects. It works best when the area around the object is sky, water, grass, sand, walls or another texture the model can continue. Removing a large object from a busy, detailed scene can leave a soft or smeared patch.

How does it fill the gap?

It uses MI-GAN, an open inpainting model from Picsart AI Research. It looks at the pixels around your selection and paints in what most likely belongs there. Only the painted area changes; every other pixel of your photo stays exactly as it was.

How do I get the cleanest result?

Paint a little beyond the edge of the object and include its shadow and any reflection. Remove big things in two or three passes rather than one huge stroke, and use Undo (Ctrl+Z) if a fill doesn't look right.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, in Chrome on Android and Safari on iPhone and iPad. Paint with your finger; pinch to zoom the page if you need to be precise.

Why is it slow on my computer?

The models run fastest on your graphics card through WebGPU (Chrome or Edge on desktop, Chrome on Android, Safari 26). Without WebGPU they run on the CPU, which is several times slower but gives the same result. The tool tells you which one it is using and how long the job will take before you start.

Which photos can I use?

JPG, PNG, WebP and AVIF, up to 40 megapixels. JPG photos are saved as high-quality JPG, everything else as PNG.
