How to make an invoice
- Your business. Add your name, address and logo once; they’re remembered on this device.
- Client. Type the client’s name and address. Clients you’ve invoiced before appear as you type.
- Line items. Description, quantity, unit and rate for each line. Tick “Tax” on taxable lines and set the rate below. Star a line to save it for next time.
- Discount and deposit. A percentage or a fixed amount off before tax, and any deposit already paid.
- Download PDF. The number counts up, the invoice is saved in My documents, and you can send the PDF however you like.
What a good invoice includes
- Your business name, address and contact details, and a licence or tax ID if your trade or country needs one.
- The word “Invoice”, a unique number and the date, plus a due date.
- Who it’s for, and the job or delivery address if it differs.
- Each item or service with quantity, rate and amount, then subtotal, discount, tax and total.
- Any deposit received and the balance due.
- How to pay, and your payment terms.
Estimates become invoices in one click
Switch to Estimate to quote a job. When the customer says yes, press Turn into invoice: the client, scope and prices carry over, the estimate number is noted on the invoice, and the deposit you asked for shows as received. Trade templates give you the usual lines for each trade, without made-up prices:

Private by design
The editor, the maths and the PDF all run in your browser. Your clients’ names, addresses and prices are never sent to us. The only things downloaded are the page itself and, the first time you make a PDF, the font it uses.
Invoices you receive
This tool writes invoices. For the ones that arrive from suppliers as PDFs, invoice to Excel reads the line items and totals into a spreadsheet for your books, also without uploading the file.
Questions people ask
Is this invoice generator really free?
Yes. Make as many invoices and estimates as you like and download each as a PDF. There is no sign-up, no trial, no watermark and no limit. A small “Made with” line sits in the page footer; removing it will be part of a later Pro plan, along with recurring invoices and payment links.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no account. Your business details, logo, saved clients, saved items and past documents are kept in your own browser’s storage on this device, and nothing you type is uploaded to us.
Where are my invoices saved?
In this browser, under My documents, after you download them. They stay until you clear this site’s data. Because nothing is stored on a server, they won’t appear on another device, so keep the PDFs you send.
How does invoice numbering work?
Each new invoice gets the next number (INV-0001, INV-0002 …) and estimates have their own series (EST-0001 …). The counter moves on when you download. If you type your own number, such as 2026-118, the next one continues from it.
Can I add my logo?
Yes. Drop a PNG, JPG, WebP or SVG on the logo box. It is shrunk to a sensible size, saved on this device, and printed at the top of every PDF.
How are discounts, tax and deposits calculated?
Line discounts come off each line first, then any whole-invoice discount is shared across the lines before tax. Tax is worked out on each taxable line and added up, so the total always matches the lines. A deposit on an estimate is the amount asked for to start; on an invoice it is the amount already received, and the PDF shows the balance due.
Can I make a GST invoice for India?
