Questions people ask
Is this GST invoice generator free?
Yes. Make GST tax invoices, bills of supply and quotations and download them as PDF with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit. Your GSTIN, clients and invoices are saved only in your browser.
When is it CGST + SGST and when is it IGST?
Compare your state with the place of supply. If they are the same, the supply is intra-state and the GST is split equally into CGST and SGST (or UTGST in a union territory without a legislature, such as Chandigarh or Ladakh). If they differ, or the buyer is in an SEZ, it is inter-state and IGST applies. The tool picks the split as soon as you choose the place of supply.
How does the GSTIN check work?
A GSTIN has 15 characters: a 2-digit state code, the 10-character PAN, an entity number, the letter Z and a check character. The tool checks the pattern, the state code and the check character, which is calculated from the first 14. A typo in any single character fails the check. It cannot tell you whether the GSTIN is active; use the search on the GST portal for that.
How many HSN digits do I need on the invoice?
Under Notification 78/2020–Central Tax, businesses with aggregate turnover up to ₹5 crore in the previous year show at least 4 digits on B2B invoices (optional on B2C), and businesses above ₹5 crore show 6 digits. Services use the 6-digit SAC starting with 99.
Which GST rates can I pick?
The slabs in force since 22 September 2025: 0%, 5%, 18% and 40%, plus the special 0.25% and 3% rates. The old 12% and 28% rates still show on lines that already use them, for credit notes and older supplies.
Does it make e-invoices with an IRN and QR code?
No. Businesses above the e-invoicing turnover limit (₹5 crore under Notification 10/2023–Central Tax) must report B2B invoices to the Invoice Registration Portal to get an IRN and signed QR code. This tool makes the invoice document; it does not register it.
Is the invoice number format correct for GST?
Rule 46(b) asks for a consecutive serial number of up to 16 characters, unique for the financial year, using letters, digits, hyphen and slash. The default here is INV/26-27/001, a new series each April, and the tool warns if a number breaks the rule.
