Step by step
- Open the image in the tool above: JPG, PNG, WebP or AVIF.
- Choose 2× or 4× and check the output size and time in the readout.
- Press Unblur and upscale and watch the tiles fill in.
- Download as PNG (lossless) or JPG (smaller).
Upscaling vs resizing
An image editor's resize interpolates between existing pixels, so edges blur and JPEG blocks get bigger. Real-ESRGAN was trained to undo the blur, noise and compression that real photos pick up and draws sharp edges at the new size. It doesn't add true detail that wasn't captured, but it makes the most of what is there.
Privacy
Your photo is opened, processed and saved by your browser on this page. It is not uploaded, stored or seen by anyone. The page downloads the model (2.4-4.9 MB) and the ONNX Runtime engine (about 7 MB compressed) from this site the first time and keeps them in your browser’s cache.
Credits and licences
- Real-ESRGAN general v3 (Wang, Xie, Dong and Shan, 2021), xinntao/Real-ESRGAN, BSD-3-Clause. ONNX export by vlad-grig (BSD-3-Clause), 2.4 MB (fp16) or 4.9 MB.
- ONNX Runtime Web (MIT) runs the models in your browser.

Questions people ask
How do I upscale an image without losing quality?
Ordinary resizing spreads the same pixels further apart, so the image gets soft. An AI upscaler like Real-ESRGAN redraws edges and textures at the new size. Drop the image into the tool on this page, choose 2× or 4× and press Unblur and upscale.
What's the largest image I can make?
Up to 64 megapixels and 16,384 pixels on the long side. If 4× of your image would be bigger than that, the tool tells you and scales the input first, or you can pick 2×.
Is it good enough to print?
For a small photo printed at a larger size, usually yes: edges stay clean at 2× and 4×. Very fine textures (hair, leaves, fabric) are reconstructed, so look at the 100% view before printing large.
Is my photo uploaded anywhere?
No. The AI model is downloaded to your browser once and runs on your own computer or phone, on the graphics card when your browser supports WebGPU and on the CPU otherwise. Your photo never leaves your device, and once the model is cached the tool works offline.
