The fresher resume format, section by section

The template above is already in this order. Replace the example (Priya Sharma is not a real person) with your own details.

  1. Name and contact details. Full name, phone with +91, a professional email address, city, and LinkedIn and GitHub links if you have them. Keep them in the body of the page, not a header.
  2. Career objective. One or two sentences naming the role you want and two or three skills you bring.
  3. Education. Degree, college, years and CGPA, then Class XII and Class X with board and percentage. Newest first.
  4. Technical skills. Grouped lines such as “Languages: Java, Python, SQL” and “Tools: Git, MySQL”. List only what you can talk about in an interview.
  5. Projects. Two or three, each with what it does, what you built it with, and one result (users, speed, accuracy, marks).
  6. Internships or training. Company, role, dates and one or two bullet points on what you actually did.
  7. Certifications. NPTEL, Coursera, freeCodeCamp, AWS and similar, with the year.
  8. Achievements and activities. Hackathons, ranks, clubs, NSS or NCC: short lines, with numbers where you have them.
  9. Personal details and declaration (optional). Languages known, and the standard one-line declaration if your college or employer expects it.

Mistakes that cost freshers interviews

  • Two-column Canva-style designs. They look good but often parse badly. Use a single column; the ATS checker shows you why.
  • Skill bars and star ratings. “Java 80%” means nothing to a recruiter and nothing to a parser. Show skills through projects instead.
  • A generic objective. “To work in a reputed organisation” tells the reader nothing. Name the role.
  • Listing every subject. Coursework belongs only if it is relevant to the job.
  • Two pages. Cut until it fits one page; the preview shows the page count as you type.

Fresher resume for jobs abroad

Applying to the US, UK, Canada or Australia? Switch to the US Classic or US Modern template. They drop the personal details and declaration, use a “Summary” instead of an objective, and default to Letter size for North America. Your content carries over when you switch.

Questions people ask

What is the best resume format for freshers?

A one-page, single-column, reverse-chronological format: your name and contact details, a two-line career objective, education with CGPA or percentage, technical skills, projects, internships, certifications and achievements. Put the strongest section (usually education or projects) near the top.

Should a fresher resume be one page?

Yes, in almost every case. Recruiters spend very little time on each resume, and a fresher rarely has two pages of relevant content. If yours runs over, shorten project descriptions to the two most impressive points each and drop school-level activities.

Should I write a career objective or a summary?

Freshers usually write a career objective: one or two sentences on the role you want and the skills you bring. Make it specific (“software developer role using Java and SQL”) rather than generic (“a challenging position in a reputed organisation”).

Should I include Class 10 and Class 12 marks?

Many Indian employers, especially in campus placements, IT services and government-linked companies, expect Class X and Class XII results along with your degree CGPA. List them in the Education section, newest first. Once you have a few years of experience you can drop them.

Do I need personal details and a declaration?

They are common on Indian fresher resumes and some recruiters expect them, but they are optional and carry no weight with an ATS. Keep personal details short (languages known, perhaps date of birth). Never include them for jobs in the US, UK or Canada, where age, photo and marital status should be left off.

Can I add a photo?

Not with these templates. Photos are not read by applicant tracking systems, take up space, and are discouraged for most private-sector jobs. If a specific form or government application asks for a photo, attach it where that form asks.

Is the download really free?

Yes. The PDF and Word downloads are free, with no watermark and no sign-up. The resume is made and saved in your browser.
