How the scanner works
- Photo. Your phone’s camera takes the picture; the browser hands it to this page without uploading it.
- Straighten and read. The OCR model finds every line of text and reads it, then the lines are straightened if the photo was tilted.
- Understand. Labels such as Subtotal, Tax, Tip and Total are matched to their amounts; the lines between the header and the totals become items.
- Check. The items, tax and tip must add up to the total. If they do not, you see the difference.
- Export. Excel, CSV or QuickBooks bill rows, saved to your phone.
Compared with receipt scanner apps
| This scanner | Typical receipt app | |
|---|---|---|
| Install | None, works in the browser | App store install |
| Account | None | Usually required |
| Where receipts go | Stay on your device | Uploaded to the app’s cloud |
| Totals checked | Yes, items + tax = total | Rarely shown |
| Free limit | 10 receipts at a time, unlimited times | Often a few scans a month |
| Receipt storage | You keep the files | Kept in the app |
If you want a cloud archive of every receipt, an app is the better fit. If you want the numbers in a spreadsheet without handing your receipts to anyone, use this.

Questions people ask
Do I need to install an app?
No. This receipt scanner runs in your phone’s browser. Tap Take photo, photograph the receipt, and it is read on the phone itself. You can add the page to your home screen if you use it often.
Is it really free?
Yes: up to 10 receipts at a time, no account, no watermark and no trial. Pro will add unlimited batches, vendor templates and QBO export for bookkeepers who process hundreds of receipts.
Where are my receipts stored?
Nowhere but your device. The photo is read in your browser tab and the spreadsheet is saved straight to your downloads. Close the tab and nothing is kept. That also means there is no cloud folder of receipts: keep the Excel file, and the photos if you need them for tax records.
Which OCR does it use?
PaddleOCR PP-OCRv6 (small detection and recognition models), released by PaddlePaddle under the Apache 2.0 licence, running on ONNX Runtime Web. We chose it because it is the most accurate open, permissively licensed OCR model that runs well in a browser in 2026. The model files are served from this site and checked against fixed SHA-256 hashes.
Does it work offline?
Once the page and the OCR model have loaded, scanning needs no connection. The model is kept by your browser, so later visits start without downloading it again.
Can it read handwritten receipts?
Printed receipts read well. Handwriting is often misread, and those fields will show low confidence; type the right values in.
