Several documents, one limit each
Job and bank portals often want five or six certificates, each under the same limit. Add them together (up to five at a time): each is compressed separately to 500 KB, and Download all saves them as one ZIP with the original names plus -500kb.
Scanner settings that land near 500 KB
If you are scanning fresh, a flatbed or office copier set to 200 dpi, greyscale, PDF gives a typical one-page certificate of about 150-400 KB before any compression, so it usually needs little or no change here. Colour at 300 dpi can be 1-2 MB a page; that is fine too, since the tool brings it down, but each halving of the file costs some sharpness, so start from the lighter setting when you can.
