How big should a 50 KB image be?
At 50 KB, a passport-shaped photo up to about 600 px wide stays crisp. A full phone photo (around 3000 × 4000 px) cannot fit in 50 KB without turning blocky, so with Any size the tool shrinks the pixels before it lowers the quality too far. If the form names a size, choose Exact size and type it.
How to do it
- Add your image: drop it, paste it, or choose it from your phone.
- Leave At most at 50, and set At least if your form has a minimum.
- Pick your form for its pixel size, or choose Exact size and type one.
- Press Download JPG. The readout shows the exact KB and pixels before you do.
How it hits the size
The tool saves your image as a JPG again and again at different quality levels, halving the gap each time, until it finds the highest quality that fits under the maximum. That takes about ten tries and usually well under a second. If you set an exact pixel size it never changes it; with "Any size" it shrinks the pixels instead of letting the picture go blocky.
Forms disagree on whether 1 KB is 1,000 or 1,024 bytes, so we count the maximum as 1,000 bytes and the minimum as 1,024. A file that passes our check passes either way. If your image is too simple to reach a minimum even at top quality, we add blank data inside the file (a JPEG comment) to reach it; the picture does not change.
