The SSC notices for CGL and CHSL 2026 say the photograph is captured live while you fill in the application, with a webcam or the SSC app. So for these exams there is no photo to resize, and older advice about resizing an SSC photo does not apply. What you still upload is your signature: a JPG of 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide and 2.0 cm high.
This page starts on the SSC signature preset. Add a photo of your signature on white paper; it is cleaned to black on white, cropped to the ink and saved at 480 × 160 px (6 × 2 cm at 200 DPI), inside 10–20 KB.
SSC upload sizes
Every row comes from the exam's own notice, linked with the date we read it. Pick a row to load it into the tool. Notices change each year, so check the one for your exam before you upload.

Getting the live photo right
The live photo is what the exam centre compares you with, so take it carefully: sit facing a plain light wall with the light in front of you, the camera at eye level, and no cap or mask. Do not hold an existing photo up to the camera.
For other SSC exams, read that exam’s notice: if it asks for an uploaded photo, choose Custom size in the tool and enter its numbers.
How to do it
- Sign inside a box about 6 cm wide and 2 cm high on white paper, with a dark pen.
- Photograph it from above in good light and add it here. The SSC signature preset is already selected.
- Check the preview: the strokes should be clear and nothing cut off. Use Stroke detail if faint parts went missing.
- Download the JPG and upload it in the signature step of the SSC form.
How it hits the size
The tool saves your image as a JPG again and again at different quality levels, halving the gap each time, until it finds the highest quality that fits under the maximum. That takes about ten tries and usually well under a second. If you set an exact pixel size it never changes it; with "Any size" it shrinks the pixels instead of letting the picture go blocky.
Forms disagree on whether 1 KB is 1,000 or 1,024 bytes, so we count the maximum as 1,000 bytes and the minimum as 1,024. A file that passes our check passes either way. If your image is too simple to reach a minimum even at top quality, we add blank data inside the file (a JPEG comment) to reach it; the picture does not change.
Private by design
Your photo never leaves your phone or computer. The resizing, cropping and signature clean-up all run in your browser, so it works on a slow connection and nothing is stored anywhere. The download is free, with no watermark and no sign-up.

Questions people ask
What is the SSC signature size in KB?
The CHSL 2026 notice (para 9.6) asks for a JPG/JPEG of 10 to 20 KB, about 6.0 cm wide by 2.0 cm high. The tool aims for that window and that shape.
What pixel size is 6.0 × 2.0 cm?
It depends on the DPI: 480 × 160 px at 200 DPI, or 236 × 79 px at 100 DPI. The notice gives only the cm size and says "about", so the SSC preset uses 480 × 160 px at 200 DPI, which keeps the strokes sharp inside 20 KB. To use another size, choose Exact size and type it in px or cm.
Does this work for both SSC CGL and CHSL?
Yes. The CGL 2026 and CHSL 2026 notices both capture the photo live and ask for the same uploaded signature, a JPG of 10 to 20 KB. For any other SSC exam, check its notice and enter its numbers if they differ.
Do I need to resize my photo for SSC?
Not for CGL or CHSL 2026: the photograph is captured live in the application form, so nothing is uploaded. If another SSC exam’s notice asks for an uploaded photo, use the tool with that notice’s numbers.
My SSC signature is only 7 KB. Will it be rejected?
It may be, because the minimum is 10 KB. With the SSC preset the tool adds blank data inside the file to reach the minimum when needed; the picture stays the same.
Why does my signature look faint after resizing?
Thin ballpoint strokes can get lost. Sign again with a thicker dark pen, or move the Stroke detail slider towards "keep faint strokes". The notice warns that illegible or blurred signatures are rejected.
Is my signature uploaded to your site?
No. Everything runs in your browser. Your signature never leaves your device.
