Resize photo to 20 KB

Will a photo look all right at 20 KB?

Yes, if it is small in pixels. A 200 × 230 px form photo looks clean at 20 KB; a 12-megapixel phone photo squeezed into 20 KB does not. Pick your form so the tool uses its pixel size, or leave the size on Any and it shrinks the pixels before the quality drops too far.

How to do it

1. Add your photo or signature.
2. For a signature on paper, tick Signature mode.
3. Keep At most at 20; set At least to 10 if your form says 10–20 KB, or pick your form.
4. Download the JPG. Its size is in the file name, like signature-140x60-18kb.jpg.

How it hits the size

The tool saves your image as a JPG again and again at different quality levels, halving the gap each time, until it finds the highest quality that fits under the maximum. That takes about ten tries and usually well under a second. If you set an exact pixel size it never changes it; with "Any size" it shrinks the pixels instead of letting the picture go blocky.

Forms disagree on whether 1 KB is 1,000 or 1,024 bytes, so we count the maximum as 1,000 bytes and the minimum as 1,024. A file that passes our check passes either way. If your image is too simple to reach a minimum even at top quality, we add blank data inside the file (a JPEG comment) to reach it; the picture does not change.
