Resize image to KB

Government and exam portals in India reject a photo that is 1 KB too big, and many reject one that is too small. This tool takes any photo, scan or screenshot and gives you a JPG that lands inside the window you set: at most 50 KB, between 10 and 20 KB, or whatever your form says.

Pick your exam in Form or exam to load its numbers from the official notice, or type your own. Turn on Signature mode for a signature on paper: it whitens the page, makes the ink black and crops to the strokes.

This tool hits a file size; it does not measure your face. For a passport or visa photo where the head must be a set size, use the passport photo maker, which frames the face to each document’s rule.

Certificates, mark sheets and ID proofs usually have to go up as PDFs, not JPGs. For those, compress the PDF to a set KB; it also turns phone photos of a document into one small PDF.

Exam and form sizes

Every row comes from the exam's own notice, linked with the date we read it. Pick a row to load it into the tool. Notices change each year, so check the one for your exam before you upload.

How to do it

1. Choose your photo (or drop it, or paste it with Ctrl+V). On a phone you can take one with the camera.
2. Pick your form in Form or exam, or set At most (and At least, if your form has a minimum) in KB.
3. If the form wants exact pixels, choose Exact size and type the width and height, in px or in cm with a DPI.
4. Drag the crop box to frame the photo. The result updates as you go and shows the final KB and pixel size.
5. Press Download JPG. The file name includes its size, like photo-400x500-48kb.jpg.

How it hits the size

The tool saves your image as a JPG again and again at different quality levels, halving the gap each time, until it finds the highest quality that fits under the maximum. That takes about ten tries and usually well under a second. If you set an exact pixel size it never changes it; with "Any size" it shrinks the pixels instead of letting the picture go blocky.

Forms disagree on whether 1 KB is 1,000 or 1,024 bytes, so we count the maximum as 1,000 bytes and the minimum as 1,024. A file that passes our check passes either way. If your image is too simple to reach a minimum even at top quality, we add blank data inside the file (a JPEG comment) to reach it; the picture does not change.
